He: Question

I have been thinking of becoming a pet groomer for a few years now! My question is, are there Grooming Schools in the Oxnard CA area. All I have for transportation is a 150cc motor scooter.

Thanks in advance for your help!

All I have ever heard of is new hires being "Assistant Groomers" or something like that, and they do the baths and blow dries and stuff until they learn the trade, then move up to "Groomer" eventually.
Good luck,
DD

There does not appear to be a Pet Grooming School in your vicinity. However, as Dogdollar points out, you can apply for a position in a grooming Salon. Pet smart will send you to a Grooming School after proving yourself in the Salon bathing pets and fulfilling other duties. The groomers are paid a percentage of the fees charged and most patrons tip the groomer. One can make a good income as a groomer.

Here are the listings for locations nearest you:

Petsmart Oxnard - stores.petsmart.com
2021 N Oxnard Blvd, Oxnard - (805) 981-4012

Petsmart Ventura - stores.petsmart.com
4840 Telephone Rd, Ventura - (805) 650-9191
4 reviews, directions, and more »

THE INQUISITIVE CANINE - www.theinquisitivecanine.com
2159 Palma Drive Suite D, Ventura - (805) 650-8500

Best of Luck!
Rich

Thanks guys you have been very helpful. I will have to wait until I acquire a car as my scooter was destroyed by a drunk driver last night when it was parked in front of my apartment. To make matters worse, it was my landlord who did it. While he may not be a slumlord he is a dumb lord.

Well it sounds as though you have your hands full right now but as for the grooming question, it appears as though the bigger pet store chains are always looking for someone to train. Good luck on your search.

From what I've heard you do have to start somewhere doing the basics like bathing. But I believe I did see somewhere where you could get a grooming certification online. I'm not real sure how that works but you might want to check that out until you get some reliable means of transportation.

Personally, an on-line certificate is only useful to the folks who sold it. One can attain knowledge on the Internet, however hands on skill is another matter. There are in house Grooming Schools across the nation. http://www.groomingschool.com/schools.htm

Puppy Love having no means of long distance transportation and no schools in her vicinity, her best bet is obtaining a position as an assistant in a grooming salon.
